FFF - Vintage Valentine's image downloads and Lunar NY BBQ!

So how many of you are not ready for Valentine's Day? (*raises hand*)  My husband and I will likely do something low key and haven't talked much about gift exchange (though of course, who doesn't like gifts right?)  I was reminded by Claire that one can just ♥ love and celebrate that.  I'm thinking of making something for the husband and found these vintage Valentine's images adorable (though I'd likely enjoy them more than him!)

...throwing a Lunar New Year bbq!  We'll be making dumplings, jap chae (Korean stir fried noodles), and grilling up lots of chicken.

Ahhh I do love the weekend and I love jetting off somewhere new (though yes, the travel can be exhausting).

Before I left though, I wanted to share something that might be nice for you iPhone lovers: the free Mark Bittman "How to Cook Everything Essentials" app - it includes recipes, lists, and a timer (hmm because who doesn't love a countdown).  Though I may not have professed my ♥ for the Minimalist to you, rest assured it runs deep. I love his easy and tasty recipes and his NY Times videos can be pretty darn funny too.

This weekend, The Body Shop has 50% off their scents in-store this weekend if you buy a $3 bag.  Pretty great deal oh and it brings back the memories of White Musk (a high school favorite!)  This new cherry blossoms scent looks kinda cool too!

...off to Victoria and Vancouver this weekend for my cousin-in-law's wedding!  Ah yes wedding season.  But really I'm most excited about breaking out of this tropical climate and experiencing real autumn weather and viewing beautiful foliage.  Fall is a favorite season and you don't realize how you miss it until you can't have it anymore!

I've been on a Photobook creating spree.  I love how they double as decor in the form of a coffee table book or photo frame (without the frame!).  I created one for my husband for our anniversary and he seemed to really like it.  I created a little storybook of his family over the years and also included pictures of his dad's paintings and photos (like the butterfly below).  It is a lovely bright spot on our bookshelf now.  Of course it's always a great gift as well for friends and family, though you should allow sufficient time to storyboard your photo book.

I discovered a coupon for a free large classic, leather classic, or custom classic 20 page photo book from Picabo for first time users.  I signed up and it seems like your personal code may expire a few weeks after you submit your email address.  I think you only pay about $10 in shipping.  I'm making a wedding album for my parents and I'm pretty excited!

going to get organized!  I feel like a little spring cleaning is in order (at least in the spare room).  I also have to organize my photos from Bali and perhaps even post them on Flickr!  I want to do all the little things around the house that I've been putting off.

Why not check out your local national park this weekend?  It's fee free this weekend at over 100 national parks - this includes everything from Sequoia National Park in California to the FDR Historical Site in NY to the George Washington Birthplace National Monument in Virginia (some are free all year round too!)  I'd love to check out the Vanderbilt Mansion or FDR Home if I was in NY!  If you don't have time this weekend, here is a list of other fee free times.

One of my favorite NYC sample sales ends tomorrow, Aug. 15.  It's the Lauren Merkin sample sale and a perfect place to pick up handbags and clutches (as I mentioned here, I've gotten great bags as gifts for 90% off!)

I'm back home, a bit exhausted, and ready for the weekend!  I look forward to catching up with everyone's blogs too.  I missed you!

Before we officially start the weekend, I wanted to share the news: you can download a free book from audible.com (no coupon codes or purchases required).  I've just downloaded my book and am kinda excited.  Perfect for summer lounging...ahh sitting by the pool and listening to a classic or maybe laughing my way through a funny book on the elliptical (they have everything from F. Otherwise, I'm off to my first wedding in Singapore (a Singaporean Chinese affair).  The bride is a friend from graduate school and asked me to be part of her "chuang men" party.  Basically I was told that the bride's friends harass the groom and his friends when they visit the bride's house the morning of the wedding so the groom can "earn" his right to see her that morning; they have to play silly games and pay us when they mess up.  It should be fun and hey I might get cab fare for the church out of it too!

I'm looking forward to loveliness (she said she'll be wearing lace and it's been raining a lot here so she might needs boots!)...

FFF - Free 8x10 Collage at Walgreens, Pancake weekend, and a lovely massage

It's been a rainy week here and possibly rainy weekend, but that won't stop us from having fun or at least organizing a few lovely, indoor activities.

If you're in the US this weekend, this is also a fun, free tidbit for you - Walgreen's has a free 8" x 10" collage print this weekend. Just use code GOBIG8X10 and pick up in your local store.  I made a cute collage of some of our wackier wedding pictures last time Walgreen's had this promotion.  It turned out well though the user interface to create the collage was clunky at times.
