Were you ever good at making shadow puppets?  I will admit that I was pretty terrible, but can still throw out the eagle or yapping dog!  Now I never thought I would think about shadows in decor, but came across these shadow chairs by Duffy London and was smitten.  There is such a fun twist on perspective - doesn't it looks like the chairs are almost floating?  I bet people would love the last chair with the wolf shadow silhouette!

Otherwise this weekend I am...
...seeing a friend I haven't seen all year!  The little lady is now 5 months pregnant!  It is funny how life changes so suddenly (ok I know it has been a few months!) but my friend's life will be completely different very soon.  Most of my friends are having babies or have had babies so I guess we are wrapping up the wedding phase (with first and second weddings, it keeps happening!) and entering the baby phase.  The husband and I are still content in our phase (just married and enjoying it!), but it would be interesting to be in that next life phase whenever that happens!

FFF - Fun Finds/Fashion Icon Illustrations and Farewells

There are such bold personalities in the fashion world that one may be instantly recognized by her style.   These fashion icon illustrations made me smile - when I think of Anna Dello Russo, funky fab headwear definitely comes to mind and Andre Leon Talley simply seems natural with a regal cape.  They could be characters in some type of fashion comic!  See the rest here.

Otherwise this weekend I am...
...bidding adieu to a good friend who is moving back to London.  We met during our studies in France and reconnected when Mr. Spend and Chomp and I moved here.  She has always been a sweet, sarcastic friend and we will be sad to see her go.  All of my friends all come from other countries and I suppose we are all so comfortable in our little bubble that we forget that this isn't a permanent home for all of us.  My husband did think about stealing her passport temporarily but she is moving back to be with her new husband so I suppose that is a good excuse.  It is still a little sad to have friends move away.  But we will toast her goodbye with a last meal of pizza and wish her well.

It's a good thing to be on cloud nine, but what if you could live inside it?  I love whimsical designs brought to life, like this cloud house built by McBride Charles Ryan in Melbourne, Australia (hmm could I take a detour here on my business trip next month?).  If I lived here, I think I'd always come home and smile because my house would just be so fun!

Otherwise this weekend I am...
...finally catching a movie at the movie theater.  My husband has been itching to see "Snow White and the Huntsman" (he's all about an action packed fairy tale) so we will likely see that this weekend.  I think the last movie I saw at the theater I saw was "Avatar" so it has been a while!  I usually can't be bothered to try to get to the movie theaters at a certain time, but this should be a fun Sunday afternoon activity.

Fun Finds: Handbag Cookie Jar via Horchow and sale

It is an undisputed fact that I am a budding fashionista, lover of great design, and occasional cook.

Well my friends, the trifecta meets in this handbag cookie jar.

A zebra or leopard striped container that can store my snacks?!  Score!  I am seriously thinking about the other ways I can use this in my home.  Hmm bathroom container for random makeup? Sugar container in the kitchen?  Pen container in the office?  All simple rationalizations for a pretty fun find.

I love having inspiration around me and this art print - La Vie Est Belle - reminds me to appreciate the beautiful things in my life.  Life isn't always what we expect it to be, but there are certain parts of it that are undeniably lovely.  So yes, this would be great inspiration to have by me every day!

...going to Mozza pizzeria with a few friends.  I ♥ pizza and I especially love the pizza at Mozza - the crust is perfect and the sausage and leek pizza is a savory, splendid bite of hearty flavor and crunchy goodness.  Apparently everyone else loves the restaurant too so it is perpetually packed and hard to get a table.  A friend happened to call this week and snagged a table for us so of course we are happy to

FFF - {Art} Fun Find - Paper Architecture and weekends in NYC

I am constantly amazed at the different materials that people use to create art.  I stumbled upon this paper architecture piece that brought me back to my hometown of NYC.  I love how Ingrid Siliakus created the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building, and Brooklyn bridge all out of paper (talk about precise cutting!)  I pinned another one of her works on Pinterest. ...flying to NYC for a brief visit.  I'm basically flying to NYC en route to Asia, but I am going to be happy to meet a few friends and get a nice dinner in with my family for Lunar New Year.  Good food cooked by my mom always makes me happy (and helps me get over jet lag, I am exhausted!)

Fun Finds/Travel: Igloo hotel in Kakslauttanen, Finland

Cold weather definitely means it is time to head indoors.  But what if you headed into an igloo hotel?  I found pictures of this igloo hotel in Kakslauttanen, Finland and was totally intrigued.  Each guest's room is an individual igloo!  Of course you'll be nice and cozy inside your private ice cabin.  Most importantly, I would definitely consider staying in one to get a good view of this breathtaking horizon.

Growing up in NYC, I usually appreciated cold accompanied by snow (at least for a few days) because it at least made the weather more bearable and fun.  This kind of hotel and vista would definitely encourage me to brave the cold as well!

Fun Finds {Fashion}: Aurora – Second Skin by Lighting by Kyeok Kim

Artisans have utilized many different mediums for creating jewelry - gold, silver, pearls, shells, etc.  These materials are usually natural materials that have been manipulated into beautiful shapes.  Well a new age of jewelry may be upon us as Aurora creates jewelry from patterns of light that emit from a single ring or piece.  The different patterns of lights directly on the skin are definitely unique.  But is this something that will catch on or will consumers stick to traditional materials that are not from Tron?

Fun Finds {Fashion}: Muppet style! nOir jewelry and Jerome C. Rousseau shoes

Oh Miss Piggy!  If you can't have Kermit, you can still have your glamorous wardrobe.  While I would have normally never considered peeking in her closet, I am loving the pink.  The Jerome C. Rousseau shoes are quite Loubotin-esque (the height, curve, and sparkles are pretty chic).  I'm a little bit on the fence about the jewelry.  It is probably more for my nieces than for me, but you have to admit that the ring is too fun!

Fun Finds {Art}: Canstruction Art and Alexander McQueen in NYC

Art is no longer restricted to paint, clay, and stone.  An exhibit of "canstruction"uses canned food to create art (who said that you can't play with your food?)  These pieces include a few odes to the great Alexander McQueen and the armadillo shoes that will always be one if his signature pieces.  I also love the homage to the Brooklyn? Bridge and other whimsical creations.  This exhibit is taking place at the World Financial Center in NYC (I used to work there!) so stop by and relax in the Winter Garden if you're ever in the area.

Fun Finds/Decor Thoughts: Transforming Ordinary bottles into lace vases via Milk Design

Can you do anything with old bottles or jars?  If you have the silicone lace sleeve from Milk Design Studios, you can transform them into modern and elegant vases.  I love that they come in both black and white and at $14.50 are reasonably priced and chic!  I see a few coming into my life pretty soon for hostess gifts, housewarming gifts, or holiday gifts.  It would be fun decor for a picnic or wedding as well.
I think it's always good to have extra gifts at home (am I the only one like this?)

Fun Finds {Gifts for Kids}: Baboo Clever Clips

Baboo is a cool series of clips that can be clipped to children's artwork.  Kids design their own shapes and attach them to clips to create a three dimensional theatre of their work.  I love the simplicity of this set and how it enables kids to really use their imagination.  This was originally inspired by children who live near Gaza and suffered from post-traumatic symptoms.  But I don't see it as simply a therapeutic tool, I see toys that really allow the kids to be the artists and make their creations come to life (this is definitely on the short list for the nieces!)

Fun Finds/Decor Thoughts: Wire art by Gavin Worth

I love finding examples of art that aren't limited to a canvas/frame and use untraditional materials (these Rob Ryan cut paper art creations are another example of unique art).  Gavin Worth has created wire sculptures that depict simple silhouettes.  The couples, hands, and solitary woman are all so serene.  I also love the 3-d quality of the pieces - wouldn't they be great in a living room or serve as lovely housewarming or even wedding gifts?

This 2011 Idea award winner helps you stylishly manage your phone and earbuds.  Ear Miki can be attached to your phone so that it can hold onto your phone and prevent it from falling even if you drop it.  It can also be worn as a ring serving as both an accessory and storage place for your earbuds.

Fun Finds: Cloud chair

A chair that is the perfect size for a person of any size?

Enter the Cloud Chair by Yanko Design.
I'm definitely intrigued by the comfortable, chic looking design though not by the price ($949).   But I also know that good design and comfort are certainly worthy the investment.

Ahh if I could only test drive lounging on a cloud chair!

Fun Finds: Royal Botania "The Wave" hammock

A hammock isn't just a hammock when it combines the look of a piece of art with the functional utility of the ultimate piece of outdoor lounge furniture.

The Wave hammock by Royal Botania and designed by Erik Nyberg and Gustav Strom is an award-winning design (from the Maison & Objet exhibition in Paris and Architectural Digest).  The feeling of the hammock is supposed to emulate the feeling of lying under a natural treetop canopy.  This canopy vibe also functionally blocks out 86% of the sun's rays.

This is definitely a piece of furniture I'll have on my outdoor furniture list!
