Tis the season for us to give big, fat bonuses to department stores (to be fair retail therapy does cure quite a few ailments)!  My dearest Midtown Girl posted an option if you want to rebel a little and browse some handmade gift ideas at the Brooklyn Flea market in Manhattan.  They have food options too - cupcakes for everyone!

Dear Santa, it's been a hard year.  Moving across the world, going through a frustrating job search, not knowing where I'll be next year...I'd love to witness the acting talents of Kevin Spacey (starring in Inherit the Wind) so I can at least appreciate London a bit more, forget my silly troubles, and see the show before it ends.  Please tell me there are still tickets available for this weekend so I can witness the awesomeness of Kaiser Soze onstage.  I'll be nice and make sure Mr. Gadget is too.

Decor Thoughts - French State of Mind

What is a French state of mind?  I imagine lazy days, lots of cheese, great wine, and of course great company.
Some of my greatest memories last year were of the small house I shared with 3 other classmates in the countryside.  We had a small courtyard and a ridiculously large, floral, and totally awesome couch as well as a piano in the living room.  Our house grilled when we can but as I've mentioned before baguettes and cheese were definitely a mainstay.
Our cleaning lady also told us Johnny Depp lived nearby.  CRAZINESS right?  I regret not doing a little more stalking when I had the chance.

Here it is (I told you it was very floral right, our land lady decorated and the couch is half the room!)

Anyway, I saw a few things that bring that French state of mind anywhere!

We resisted creating a registry for a while.

After all we're moving to London and I have accumulated some pretty awesome kitchen/housewares over the past few years. My mom is probably going to help us buy a house some day and helping us finance our way to London so that is gift enough.

My tastes are also more Williams Sonoma while his are Apple Store.

Finally, it also felt odd to have a gift list. "Yes, please get me that bowl!"

But we succumbed.

We made a list that was totally useful and us with universal registries through Amazon and Wishpot. They allow you to post ANYTHING online as a wish list item. It was kinda fun and I don't actually expect or care if people buy things on the list because I can get them later.
